Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Chief Godspower Ake says the recent merger of three opposition parties – Action congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress of Progressive (CPC) and All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), will hit the rocks before 2015 elections.

In an exclusive chat with The Tide at the weekend, Chief Ake said it was too early for people to see the merger, which gave birth to All Progressives Congress (APC), as a success.

His words, ‘this is 2013. Watch out before 2015 whether there will be no quarrel in the sharing of positions. As far as I know, mergers have not worked in Nigeria. He argued that the opposition parties merger does not in anyway pose threat to the PDP, as the ruling party is rooted in the country.

On the state of affairs of the party in Rivers State, Chief Ake said the PDP has no rival in the state, “you don’t have anybody to tell you if you want to win, then you must join the PDP”

As far as he was concerned, the party is leading and had demonstrated leadership in Rivers State considering the success of the Governor Amaechi-led administration.

Chief Ake dismissed most of the activities of the Action Congress (AC) in Rivers State, “they are trying to make themselves relevant. Where is their office and where are they talking from?. They are here to make themselves relevant, he said.
