Anambra To Represent Nigeria In U-16 YSFON Tourney
The Anambra State U-16 Youth Sports Federation (YSFON) team is to represent Nigeria in the up-coming Norway U-16 International Football Tournament, after emerging the champion of the just-concluded YSFON Abuja Unity Cup.
Anambra U-16 Boys Team emerged the champions of the Abuja Unity Cup, 2013 after beating Nasarawa State 2 – 0 at the old Parade Ground, Abuja on Saturday.
Raphael Nweke, Secretary of YSFON in Anambra, made the disclosure in an interview with Tidesports on Wednesday in Onitsha.
Nweke said that the Norwegian tournament would be held for two weeks and would feature 32 youth teams from different countries in the world, including England and Spain.
He said that the tournament had been scheduled to hold between July 8 and July 22 this year.
“Our outing in Abuja for the Abuja Unity Cup was a grand success since we emerged champions after two weeks by defeating Nasarawa State 2–0 at the finals.
“And our striker, Chiadikaobi Uzoagbara netted the two goals for our side.
“Our team was handed over a giant trophy; which had been handed over to our sports commissioner for Gov. Peter Obi,’’ he said.
Nweke said that the YSFON team would soon resume intensive training at the Chuba Ikpeazu Memorial Stadium, Onitsha, in order to make Nigeria proud in Norway.
“Our sports Commissioner and the Director of Sports Operation in the ministry have assured of their total support to our campaign to be the best in the world come July.
“We will not fail them and Nigerians in general,’’ Nweke said.
