Activist Decries Murder Of Four Ogonis
A civil servant and human rights crusader, Comrade Akpaadee F. Ngbo, has described as barbaric the gruesome murder of four Ogoni men by suspected cultists in the area recently.
Comrade Ngbo, who stated this in a document made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, listed the deceased as LeBari Nwiador, Barisua Ndebe, Yereue Ndikor and John Letam Agbo.
The human rights crusader remarked that the murder of innocent law abiding citizens of the Nigerian nation state had attracted public outcry and prayed government to ensure that the killers were brought to justice.
He, however, lamented the biased reporting of the incident in a newspaper (not The Tide).
According to him, the local weekly tabloid had captioned the investigation of the killing as “Ogoni Chief uses Policemen to Victimise Opponents, Haunt Journalists”.
He expressed regrets that journalists were compromising their esteemed position by reporting with malice.
The human rights activist accused the local tabloid of reporting an illogical argument to suit the vindictive and parochial interests of suspects facing interrogation.
Comrade Ngbo also accused the local tabloid of deforming (Chief) Mene Jimmy Ngbo (JP), the paramount ruler of Teyor Kaani Community whom it accused of hijacking relief materials worth N20 million (given to the Community by National Emergency Management Agency).
He noted the allegation was intended to tarnish the image of a Community leader who had done so much to develop his domain.
Comrade Ngbo pointed out that the same newspaper had also alleged that it was Mene Ngbo’s thugs who killed John Agbo in spite of the accurate account narrated by the 13-year-old daughter of the slain John Agbo.
He explained that the two accused persons standing trial on the matter had admitted that the incessant killings in their community were masterminded by cultists.
