WASU Harps On Cultural Heritage In Okrika

The need to re-orientate the rich
cultural heritage and tradition of a society has again been stressed.

The national president of Wakirike Student’s Union (WASU),
Rivers State, Comrade Jonathan Gunn made the assertion while speaking at a
cultural fiesta orgainsed by the body within six days in office of their
election at Okrika main market square recently.

Mr. Gunn said the fiesta was organised to re-integrate
majority of Wakirika students and youths at home and in diaspora to appreciate
the rich cultural values and traditions of the people, including music and
dance.

He noted that it is a happy re-union of the students of the
body to ensure they preserved their culture, which according to him, is very
paramount as enshirined in their constitution.

The newly elected national president of WASU also reiterated
that the fiesta provided an avalanche of opportunities for staying students, as
they were given an unincredulous awareness on mass education, peace and social
sanity.

Comrade Gunn recalled that as pledged during his inaugural
speech on December 22, 2012, that Wakirike students in the next one year would
be committed to bringing back the fast fading glory of the union, adding, “In
this journey towards restoring her lost glories as a union, we call on all
stakeholders, past leaders and elders nationwide to join this train towards a
revolutionary leadership”.

“Wakirike sons and daughters of prominence should also reckon
with this revolutionary train”, he stressed.

Distinguished personalities from all walks of life graced the
cultural festival which attracted cream of Wakirike students.
