The National Union of Chemical Footwear, Rubber, Leather and Non-Metallic  Products Employees NUCFRLANMPE), has denied  the sack of its members being among the workers recently sacked in Dangote cement factory.

The Union General Secretary Comrade Douglas Adiele in a press statement said the 890 people  sacked by the management of Dangote Cement factory in Gboko Benue State were  not members of the union since  they are not unionised.

Comrade Adiele explained  that the workers sacked  were yet to join the union after the cement  factory was acquired by Dangote  Group.

He said that before the acquisition, the sacked workers were members  of the union, but when Dangote Group took over  the ownership, the  workers were de-unionised.

The union scribe said the factory owners have been urged to ensure that the  workers  returned to work soonest to avoid being  impoverished.

He said that the glut in the cement industry had not affected the price of cement in the country.

Comrade Adiele said the price of cement is still the same  in Lagos or in the East stressing that if gult  is  responsible for drop in sale as some of the companies  claim, there should be surplus and price  decrease. Meanwhile, the President  National Union of Construction and Civil Engineering (NUCCE) Comrade Samuel Adeoye  has stated that the glut  in the cement industry had  not reduced  the price of  the product.

Comrade Adeoye said that construction workers had not experienced increase  in construction of building due to glut in cement production.
