An estate surveyor and valuer in Nigeria, Dr. Mohammed Nuhu, has decried the long dealys recorded in the process of property registration in the country.

Nuhu noted that it takes a minimum of 82 days in Nigeria to get a property registered, a process, he said ordinarily take a maximum of three days, saying that these delays have affected housing development in Nigeria.

Dr. Muhammed, a lecturer in estate management at the Federal University of technology Minna, Niger State who was speaking in a forum on Valuation in Port Harcourt, organised by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) recently in Port Harcourt noted that the time it takes for property to be registered in Nigeria is far-above the period it takes in other countries.

He regretted that such delay were unnecessary and is caused by people who want to make something out of nothing. He said that such delay has affected the property of the business negatively.

Nuhu who is also a Fellow of the NIESV therefore called for a change of policieis and other bottle-necks that had hampered smooth operations in the property market, adding that some of the delays recorded were due to use of non professionals in the government agencies.

As land and property Managers, estate surveyors and valuers, he said were trained as professionals, and ought to be given the right place to exercise their skills in the appropriate areas, so as to make property business excel in the country.
