Super Eagles’ Performance Raises Concern
Jut few hours after the Super Eagles of Nigeria played out a goalless draw with African Cup of Nations greenhorns, Cape Verde Island on Wednesday, many Nigerian fans have started raising doubts over the chances of the national team at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.
A survey by Tidesports after the friendly showed that most of the confidence and expectations occasioned by the Eagles’ 1-1 draw against the Catalonia X1 last week in Spain have disappeared following what many termed an uninspiring display by the Eagles.
Nigeria were held to a 0-0 draw by Cape Verde as both sides continued their preparations for the African Nations Cup.
Stephen Keshi listed his 23-man squad for the tournament shortly before kick-off, and lined out with what was as close to his first eleven as it is likely to get in South Africa.
But the Super Eagles looked ponderous in a first half dominated by Cape Verde and had Austin Ejide to thank for not going behind on at least two occasions.
