RSUST, China Sign MoU … To Establish Confucius Institute

The Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Norman University, Shangting Province in China to collaborate on areas of mutual interest.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Barineme Fakae, said that the agreement which was signed in China would create opportunity for the establishment of a Confucius Institute in the University.

He said that the pact would enable the people of Rivers State to study the culture and Arts of China, their language as well as their sciences, adding that the university should therefore be repositioned to meet this new development.

Prof. Fakae said that, according to the agreement, lecturers from RSUST and Chinese University will undertake regular exchange visits.

He described China as an emerging technology giant pointing out that Rivers State stands a chance to benefit from the programme as countries now collaborate and exchange ideas.

“You collaborate and exchange ideas and when we do so, we will not be competing just within people who have really advanced in science and technology,” he said.

The vice chancellor said that apart from repositioning RSUST for the challenge the management is also insisting on a steady school calendar.
