Sequel to the incessant road accident at Igwuruta Round About in Ikwerre Local Government of the state, residents have called for expansion of the road in order to prevent further lost of lives.

One of the residents, who gave her name as Mrs Joy Victor, said the only solution to the continuous Igwuruta Round About mishap is to expand the road.

Victor, said the road should span from the Police Station to end at OMPADEC road so as to beat the challenges of the round about accident which always involve tankers and other long vehicles.

According to her, the Igwuruta Round About recorded over five major accidents in 2012, citing that of the tanker inferno of March 18, 2012, which several lives were lost.

She recalled that similar situation was averted on Thursday, December 27, 2012 when a tanker conveying petroleum product capsized at the same spot, adding that no live was lost.

Others, who also spoke with The Tide, like Prince Charles Igwe, said the December 27 tanker accident would have been a major disaster if not for the timely intervention of the Rivers State Fire Service Command.

Igwe, supported the call for the expansion of the Igwuruta Round About, following the nature of road mishap in the area.

The respondent, who said that he is a motorist, was confused over the manner of accident along the spot.

Some indigenes, blamed the situation on the heavy blood which was shed on the area during the Nigeria/Biafra war.

According to them, some rituals ought to be performed in the area in order to nip the situation on the bud.
