Police To Consolidate On Gains
Police Area Commander in Onitsha, Anambra State, Mr Benjamin Wordu, says police will consolidate on the security gains recorded in Onitsha, through the strengthening of existing community policing strategy.
Wordu said on Sunday in Onitsha that community policing helped a lot to make Onitsha, and by extension, Anambra relatively crime-free before, during and after the 2012 Yuletide.
He said, “In the area of neighbourhood watch and their performance, of course we need their partnership. That is all about this community policing. “Partnering with the public and other groups, other societies, other blocs of the society to get adequate security for the peace and stability of this nation. “So we embrace them, all of them; however, time will be taken study some of their lapses and any lapses observed in the course of their performance, we’ll from time to time reposition them.’’
Wordu urged residents of Onitsha and its environs to assist the police with prompt and accurate information, stressing that the police officers were neither magicians nor clairvoyants.
“So when you bring this information, we know quite alright that if that information is divulged to the hearing of those affected and they identify the person giving that information, it will be disastrous for him. “So we do our best to ensure that information given to us is handled with utmost confidentiality,’’ he added
Wordu also enjoined the media to always check facts and figures about crime with the police before going to press.
