Osun Farmers Seek Early Distribution Of Farm Inputs
Farmers in Osun State has urged government at all levels to make the distribution of farm inputs and financial assistance to them a priority in this year’s farming season.
The State Chairman of All Farmers Association (AFAN), Mr. Raheem Adeniji, said this in Osogbo while speaking with newsmen recently.
Adeniyi said prompt provision of farming incentives to farmers would assist them in early planting of crops and enable them to concentrate on farm management.
“In the last farming season, majority of farmers were denied incentives such as fertiliser while those that were given got their shares very late thus making it impossible for them to have bumper harvest.
“We appeal to the state and federal governments to continue to prioritise the nation’s agricultural sector to achieve its target on food security,” he said.
In a similar development, The Southwest Chairman of Cassava Growers Association, Dr David Ogunsade, has called on farmers cultivating cassava to maximally use the opportunity of the cassava inclusion policy of government to expand their farms.
Reviewing the last farming season, Ogunsade said cassava growers in the Southwest were working toward ensuring sufficient provision of cassava products for use by industries across the country.
He assured cassava growers of the Federal Government’s determination to promote cassava cultivation, saying there was always a ready market for the crop.
