Ohanaeze Gets Crisis Resolution Committee

A committee has been set up by South East leaders including governors of the zone to resolve the current leadership crisis in the apex Igbo social cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo which has succeeded in tearing the body into two warring factions, following the election of members of the executive of the body in Enugu recently.

The committee which is headed by Senator Ben Obi, from Anambra state was also mandated to look into the problems of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,with a view to finding our the immediate and remote cause the crisis.

Briefing news men shortly after a meeting of the South East Leaders held Sunday at the Government House, Enugu, Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum and governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi disclosed that the committee was also asked to find out ways of making Ohanaeze Ndigbo stronger than what it is today.

Obi, also told newsmen that the leaders resolved that all cases regarding Ohanaeze now pending in various courts in the zone should be withdrawn without further delay.

His words: “We just finished a meeting of the South East Political Leadership with some eminent people, we discussed the issue of Ohanaeze Ndigbo which is a very strong body that is holding all of us together. In the end, we set up a committee to look into the problem and how to make Ohanaeze stronger, that committee is headed by Senator Ben Obi and other members”.

Continuing, governor Obi further said: “We also resolved that all issues that are pending in court regarding Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo be withdrawn forthwith. We appealed to all those involved for the sake of Igbo people to stop the cases in court and stop further statements capable of causing disunity among the Igbos”.

Governors Peter Obi, Rochas Okorocha, Theodor Orji, Martin Elechi of Anambra, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi states respectively attended the meeting while Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State was represented by his deputy, Sunday Onyebuchi.
