Obi Seeks Upgrade Of Military Facilities

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has called for proper maintenance of infrastructure in Army Barracks to provide conducive environment for soliders to operate.

Obi spoke during a courtesy visit on him by the out-going General Officer Commanding the 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Enugu, Maj. Gen. Olowaseun Oshinowo, in Awka last Thursday.

Obi, who said national infrastructure should not be allowed to deteriorate and collapse, decried the poor condition of internal roads and facilities in Onisha Army Barracks.

He promised that he would bring the situation to the attention of relevant authorities at the federal level.

The governor added that the State Government would intervene and reconstruct some of the roads to save them from further dilapidation.

He commend the contributions of the military in strengthening internal security and extolled the performance of the out-going GOC.

According to him, the GOC has impacted positively on the state and the South-East, in general.

Responding, Oshinowo said he was retiring from the army after 34 years of service and attaining the mandatory age of retirement.

He expressed gratitude to the governor for his various supports and assistance to the Army.

The GOC noted that the governor’s effort ensured efficiency, recalling that the state and South East did not record any crime or kidnap throughout the Christmas and New Year Celebrations Oshinowo, however, urged Obi to extend the same support and cooperation to his successor to sustain the cordial relationship.
