NDDC Donates 880 Computers To Polytechnics
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has donated
Eight Hundred and Eighty computers and printers worth millions of naira to four
Tertiary Institutions in the Niger Delta Region.
The Beneficiaries include Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Imo
State Polytechnic, Rivers State Polytechnic and the College of Arts and
Science, Port Harcourt.
Handing over the items, NDDC Managing Director, Dr.
Christian Oboh, represented by the Director, Education, Health and Social
Services, Dr. Christy Atako, disclosed that the Commission sees education as
basis for development.
“Education plays a vital role in societal development and
ICT has made the world a global village, so we cannot afford to sit back and
watch the world move ahead of us” he said.
In his contribution, Rivers State Representative on NDDC
Governing Board, Prof. Ibitamuno Aminigo, noted that the donations were in line
with President Jonathan’s transformation agenda, while his Imo counterpart,
Peter Ezeobi, who spoke at the Imo state Polytechnic, said the Commission will
continue to intervene in the education sector.
Responding, Dr. Hilary Wogu, Provost, Rivers State College
of Arts and Science, thanked NDDC for the computers and assured that the
facilities will be properly use.
Deputy Rector, Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, Dr. Jengoa
Boyle said the Commission has added value to the school. “We will try to make
the best use of this your kind gesture by ensuring that the students are
computer literate”.
The Rector Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Israel Appiah who
also thanked the Commission said “I know that NDDC has done a lot. I remember
that the 500KVA generator that we are enjoying was donated by NDDC. I believe
that NDDC will always come to our aid in our times of need”.
