Man Nabbed For Killing Wife …As Ahoada East Boils
The Police Command in Rivers has arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife on New Year day.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Indabawa, made this known while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Indabawa said the murder took place in Ikata Community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.
He said that the suspect and his late wife, Abigail Udeh, had a quarrel on December 31, which culminated in the murder of the woman at about 4.30 am on New Year day.
The commissioner said that the remains of the woman had been deposited in the morgue, while investigation into the matter had commenced. He said the police arrested nine suspected cult members in Ochiyba Community also in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Indabawa said the suspects invaded the community on New Year day, unleashed terror on the residents and killed one Okpara James.
He said the situation would have degenerated if not for the prompt intervention of members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and policemen in the community who quickly cordoned off the area. Indabawa said the search conducted by the security agents led to the arrest of the nine suspects.
He said that a bag containing seven locally-made dynamites, six dynamite fuses and 14 dynamite wires were recovered from the suspects.
The Commissioner reiterated the commitment of the command to stamp out crime in the state and appealed to the public to cooperate with the police.
