LP Tasks INEC On Free, Fair Polls
The Labour Party Chairman in the FCT, Mr Adejobi Peter, last Tuesday urged the Independent National Electoral Commission in the FCT to ensure that the area council elections in March were free and fair. Peter told newsmen in Abuja that the commission needed to be proactive in the conduct of the forthcoming elections.
According to him, creating sufficient polling units that will accommodate the eligible voters in the FCT is long overdue in the light of increasing number of residents in the four area council. “Let them make public the total number of polling units in the FCT and their designated areas; INEC should perfect its acts and let us have them in concrete terms.
“This is because polling units are like goal posts, which must be protected by the relevant authorities,” he said. Peter said the party was “fully prepared for the forthcoming area council elections”, adding, “we have been working tirelessly to secure victory”.
He also said that women were participating fully in the forth coming election as some of them were contestants.
“Labour Party is a party that holds women in high esteem and that is why the party purchased nomination forms for the women.” Peter, however, said that the paucity of fund was a major challenge of the Labour Party, adding that all hands must be on deck to forge ahead.
“We still keep on working till we achieve our objectives, including being voted into power to impact positively on the lives of the people.”
