Legal Practitioner Harps On Adequate Security In Prisons
A Lagos based lawyer, Barrister Abraham Jande has called for the maintenance of adequate security at our prisons across the nation.
Barr. Abraham Jande, who stated this while speaking with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend expressed regrets over the recurrence of jailbreaks in the country.
The legal practitioner said no nation could operate without law and order.
He said the heightening of insecurity in the Nigeria especially in the north did not make room for development and investment and warned that unless the Boko Haram and their conspirators were fished out, the loss of lives and properties would not abate.
The lawyer expressed belief that the government could contain the onsought of the Boko Haram if law enforcement agents were sincere and dedicated to their duties.
He noted that crime prevention should be the target of law enforcement agents instead of the feeble and unsuccessful attempts made after the commission of crimes.
Barr. Jande noted that all hands should be on deck to stop the madness called Boko Haram.
According to him, “Boko Haram is arrant nonsense”. Nobody knows what their motives are.
“Boko Haram has inflicted a lot of pains on the nation and we can’t fold our hands and watch this drama of the absurd, the lawyer stated.
“We are appalled by the state of things in this country. Every day lives are lost to hoodlums who operate under one name or the other. Yet nothing seems to halt the dastardly acts. We cannot as a nation live under the fear of Boko Haram and other terrorists”, he pointed out.
In a related development, President Goodluck Jonathan has assured the nation, that security challenges facing the nation would be adequately addressed this year (2013).
President Jonathan, who stated this in a nation wide broadcast recently noted that terrorism will be tackled and urged Nigerians to lend a helping hand.
