Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe, religion or political party affiliations have been urged to learn from the mistakes of the previous years and commit themselves to ensuring that improvements are made in all facets of the country’s socio- economic and political life.

The Acting Governor of Enugu state, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, who gave the charge in his new year message also advised Nigerians at all levels and in all capacities to redouble their efforts at building a stable, secure and prosperous nation where no one would be oppressed or marginalised in whatever form.

Mr. Onyebuchi also urged Nigerian citizens to eschew at all times any acts that may impede the progress of the nation, adding that they should remain prayerful and continue to seek the will of God and His guidance in all their endeavours in the New Year.

He, however, thanked the citizens of Enugu state, security agencies and various organisations for the support and cooperation they offered the state government in out gone year assuring them that Government would not relent in its current efforts to entrench good governance and bring about total transformation of the state.

Meanwhile, Christmas and New Year festivities were peacefully celebrated in Enugu, the capital city of Enugu State and its environs as no robbery, kidnap or road accidents were recorded during the period under review.

Our correspondent further reports that in spite of the present hardship in the land, hundreds of thousands of Enugu residents traveled to the hinter land to celebrate with their relations and loved ones.

The Tide also gathered that the order, as well as radio Jingles put across by the Enugu state police command warning the general public against the use of fireworks during Christmas and New Year celebrations were flouted with impunity as different kinds of fire works were used indiscriminately during the two all important festivities in Enugu metropolis and envirans.
