Lagos NUT Decries Dearth Of Teachers
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Lagos State Chapter has expressed worry over the dearth of teachers in the state public schools.
The union Chairman, Comrade Sampson Kayode, stated this in a statement issued recently by the union, stressing the need for the Lagos State Government to urgently employ new teachers to fill the gap created by the retiring teachers.
Comrade Kayode said that inadequate teachers in public schools in Lagos is worrisome and should be tackled promptly.
He said “the union use the opportunity to once again plead with the state government to accelerate efforts in recruiting teachers in Lagos public schools before the commencement of the new academic session stressing that the union members are pleading with the government to give employment letters to teachers that were successful during the last recruitment exercise in Lagos, so that they can commence work immediately”.
The union said that those who scaled through the recruitment exercise are capable and qualified to fill the wide gap that has been created by the retiring teachers, stressing that a situation where public schools in Lagos are lacking teachers in the midst of plenty will not sound too good and might slow down government’s efforts in the repositioning of public schools in Lagos.
Meanwhile, a new academic session for public schools in Lagos is to commence on Monday January 14.
The union Chairman, Comrade Sampson Kayode, said everything was being put in place to ensure a smooth take-off of the new term and the teachers were ready and rearing to go with a new zeal and vigour.
The union leader appealed to parents to step up their effort in monitoring their children and wards so that together, the union and parents will all be proud of the pupils.
He said the union would strive to support the efforts of the state government in ensuring that eduation in the state is taken to the next level.
Also Comrade Kayode appealed to the union members to give in their best at every point in time as a way of contributing to national development.
