Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon Fred Mbombo Igwe has been confirmed as the leader of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Eleme Local Government Area of the State.
This confirmation came during a meeting / interactive session of Eleme PDP faithfuls on New Year’s day in the commissioners country home in Eleme.
Speaking during the meeting, the pioneer chairman of Eleme Local Government Council and one of the political leaders of the area, Chief Bebe Okpabi explained that as it has been the practice, the highest ranking state political office holder from the area automatically becomes the leader of the party in the area.
“He assumes the leadership of the party, provides the template and the people support him”, he said. Thus, Hon Fred Mbombo Igwe as the highest ranking political office holder in the state from Eleme is the party leader in the area.
He further stated that PDP in Eleme remains one indivisible entity that is very close to the heart of the state governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi.
According to him, what Hon Igwe was doing through the interactive session was to keep the people together and usher them into the new year with one mind behind the party’s leadership in the state.
Hon Igwe in his own speech preached steadfastness and loyalty as good virtues that have positive reward and urged the people to remain focused behind the leadership of Governor Amaechi in the state.
He declared that Eleme’s support for PDP is total. “Eleme has been and will always be totally for PDP under the leadership of Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi”, he stated.
The Commissioner also said that the interactive session has been an annual event where the communities in Eleme under PDP gather to rub minds and chart their courses. He noted that after the last registration exercise of the party, a lot of people became aggrieved and left the party but with the efforts of the state governor and the new leadership in the area, the party is now one united family.
