HOS Harps On Staff Training

The Head of Service, Barrister S.T. Longjohn has described training and retraining of civil servants as the key to sustainable productivity in the service.

Barrister Longjohn said this while declaring opened a three-day workshop organised by the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission for staff on grade levels 04-07 from Rivers South East in Port Harcourt.

The Head of Service who was represented by the director of administration office of the Head of Service, Mr. Godwin Chinwi said that it was against this background that the present administration under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi places premium on the training and retraining of civil servants in the state.

He urged the participants to take advantage of the workshop to improve their knowledge of the civil service.

Also speaking, the chairman of the Rivers State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini said that the workshop was in accordance with the provision of the Rivers State local government law of 1999 which mandates the commission to train and retrain its staff.

Chief Nmerukini said that, the workshop was to create awareness as well as improved productivity in the service.

Also speaking, the sate president of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Barrister Franklin Ajinwo, commended the commission for the workshop which he observed will improve productivity in the service.

Earlier, the chairman of the sub-committee on training in the commission, Chief Jonah Tamuno said that the participants numbering more than 700 are drawn from Rivers South East senatorial district and Ahoada west.
