Expert Tasks Public On Fire Safety Precautions
Worried by the spate of fire incidents across the country, particularly in this harmattan season, a safety expert, Mr. Sam Ayadi, has urged the Nigerian public to be safety conscious so as to avoid unnecessary fire out breaks now that we are in hammattan season.
He said that a lot of people did not take safety precautions, and are very careless about their environment without minding keeping combustible substances around.
Ayadi frowned at the attitude of some business owners as well as property developers for not providing safety equipment and devices that can be used to control fire in the event of out break
The safety expert therefore urged that precautions should be taken on the process of burning bushes within the neigbourhood, adding that people should ensure that they clear grasses around their premises, stressing that some five incidents had resulted from burning waste within the neigbourhood during the hammattan season.
Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olusegun Okebiarun has said that his men will commence immediate enforcement of the fire safety code to control the fire incident across the country.
Okebiarun in a press statement, said that recent fire outbreaks witnessed within the christmas and new year had given them serious concern, adding that a lot of buildings have been razed down which has made people lose properties and other valuables unnecessarily.
Comptroller Olusegun also declared that all the fire service stations across the nation would be fully mobilised for the exercise, pointing out that many Nigerians are not safety conscious, and do not provide such facilities in the event of emergencies.
To that end, he said that men and officers of the fire service on the enforcement exercise will ensure that every building from the time of setting the structure and finishing must be provided with fire safety gadgets.
