Dickson Urges Support For Fallen Heroes Families
The Bayelsa State Governor, Hon Seriake Dickson has called for support for the families of those who lost their lives in course of defending the nation.
Dickson who made the appeal during the Armed Forces remembrance Day held in the State capital Yenagoa, yesterday, pointed out that it is when the families of these fallen heroes are considered and giving adequate recognition could those living bring out their minds to serve the nation.
Dickson who was represented by his the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah, called for continued support for the Military personnel to enable them discharge their statutory duties effectively.
He urged Nigerians to spare a thought for the families left behind by the war veterans and envision the trauma brought about by the death of their loved ones.
Earlier, the state chairman of the Nigerian Legionnaires, Elder Effiong Igirigi had lamented the sufferings of the organisation which among other things include non payment of their pensions.
He therefore, wants the relevant authorities to take actions so as to minimized their sufferings after serving their fatherland meritoriously.
Also in an interview, widow of late Brigadier General Fredrick Enai, Stella, urged the Federal Government to step up its efforts at alleviating the plight of widows of the fallen heroes.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the departed heroes as well as firing of salvo in their remembrance.
