One of the partners of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Guinness Nigeria Plc, yesterday began its effort to garner support for the National team, Super Eagles for the forthcoming African Cup of Nations scheduled to kick off in South Africa this weekend.

The organisation, yesterday at the Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt began a two day exercise to get Nigerians show solidarity for the Eagles by unveiling and getting the fans to sign a giant replica jersey of the Super Ealges, the size of which is about the biggest ever on show in the world.

Speaking at the event, the Marketing Manager of the company, Obinna Anyalebechi said that Guinness’ support for the Eagles is part of the corporate patriotism.

According to him, partnering with the NFF and the national team was not primarily aimed at making profit, but adding value to the Federation and the product.

“Our partnering with the national team is attracting more support for the team and value to the product,” Anyalebechi said.

The Marketing Manager said that Port Harcourt was chosen as venue to unveil the jersey because the governor of Rivers State, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has shown commendable support for the Eagles.

“We are doing tit here because I know that Governor Chibuike Amaechi is passionate about sports, he also has emotional support for the Super Eagles.

“Besides, I do know that Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium has been the home of the Eagles”, he stated.

Mr Anyalebechi used the forum to call on other corporate organisations to support the team, saying that that would aid the team to success.

“I call on other corporate organisations to support the team, and extend sponsorship to Nigeria Premier League.

In fact, they should borrow a leaf from the management of Guinness Plc in the area of sports development in the country.

High light of the event was signing of signatures on the branded jersey, as a show of support and solidarity to the Super Eagles.

The event continues today and the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Fred Igwe is expected to be one of the major VIPs that will be at the venue today and show his support for the Super Eagles.
