Community Laments Deplorable Road, Flooding
Okpojiaku community in Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State has decried the bad condition of its major access road to other neighbouring communities and flooding in the area.
Rev. Temple Ugwuzor, a prominent indigene of community, made the statement in Aba at the Aba Youth Cultural Day celebrations.
He said that the Uratta Road, the only gateway to the area, presently in a poor state, was the economic life wire of the citizens.
Ugwuzor said the road, which also linked Aba with Port Harcourt in Rivers State through Ariaria market, had made life unbearable for citizens of the area.
‘’Most of the houses in the area have been taken over by flood and many people abandoned their homes during the rainy season.
“Nobody here drives his car because of flooding and the deplorable state of roads,’’ he said.
Ugwuzor, the Special Assistant to the former Abia governor on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), has appealed to the state government and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to assist in rehabilitating the road.
Meanwhile, Chief Ugochukwu Ugwuzor and Mr Onwuatuogu Ndubuisi, the Chairman and Secretary respectively of the youth association, said that the cultural celebration was aimed at ensuring the development in the community.
They enjoined youths to shun all forms of criminal activities and embrace education which would help them to become self-reliant and respectable in the society.
