CLO Urges Probe Into Esu River Killings

Members of the
Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) South East zone  have strongly
condemned the recent killings of no fewer than 20 able bodied young men and
dumping their lifeless bodies in Esu-River,  Amansea community in Awka
North Local Government Area of Anambra state, calling on the Inspector –General
of Police (IGP), to order thorough investigation in the dastardly act with a
view to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

CLO members who made their feelings
known through their South East  zonal Director, Barrister Olu Omotayo,
also urged the police boss to equally order full scale investigation into
the recent discovery of scores of  dead bodies of unidentified women
at a hide-out / operational base of suspected  ritualists in Okpanam
community in Delta state.

Maintaining that there were no gunshot
injuries or any mark of violent attack on the corpses of all the 20 male adults
found floating on Esu river on Sunday January 20, 2013, the CLO members
wondered where went members of  the security  agents including the
Police, Army, Civil Defence, among others, when 20 corpses were being carried
and dumped in the said river.

According to them, “The people of
Amansea Community of Anambra State, were very surprised when they woke up on
Sunday morning of 20thJanuary 2013, and
found 20 corpses, floating on Ezu river their only source of water supply in
the community”.

However, members of CLO expressed
happiness that the Delta police command had already arrested some suspects in
connection with the latest discovery of female lifeless bodies by police in the
area.

They, therefore, reasoned that
ordering full scale investigations into the two dastardly acts had become very
necessary, as it would not only make it possible for the perpetrators to be
brought to book, but would also go a long way in serving as deterrent to others.
