The Anambra Government has donated 50 patrol vehicles and three armoured personnel carriers to the state police command to reduce crime in the state. Making the donation in Awka on Wednesday, Gov. Peter Obi noted that his administration could not achieve its vision in an atmosphere of insecurity.

Obi reassured the police that the state government would continue to work with the force to enhance security of lives and property in the state.

He explained that apart from providing the much-needed equipment to security agencies, the government would also intensify efforts to expand the industrial base of the state.

The governor expressed the belief that with employment of the youth, criminality would be reduced in the state. He also called on well-meaning Nigerians to accord maximum support to the police in the quest for a peaceful society.

Receiving the vehicles, the Inspector-General of the Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, thanked the governor for the gesture and expressed the hope that other governors would emulate his example toward a crime-free society.

Abubakar assured the governor that the vehicles would be effectively used to combat crime in the state.

He warned the officers and men of the state police command to shun recklessness, intimidation and molestation of any law-abiding citizen in the state.

“We want to see the impact of policing with the donation of these vehicles, as there must be improved vigilance on the part of our personnel,” the police boss said.
