We’ve A Lot To Learn From Rivers …Oyo Gov Confesses

Impressed by the various developmental strides by Governor Chibuike Amaechi in Rivers State, Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi says other states have a lot to learn about good governance in Rivers State.

Senator Ajimobi made the observation at a special dinner organised for him as part of his visit to the state on Monday in Government House, Port Harcourt.

The Oyo State Governor said Port Harcourt has transfromed hugely from what it used to be, and promised to borrow a leaf from Governor Amaechi, “we are doing a restoration in Oyo…but we need to draw out the sterling qualities that made Port Harcourt and Rivers state what it is today”.

Specifically, he praised the new Greater Port Harcourt scheme, noting that Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo is in dire need of similar urban renewal and transformation.

On a personal note, he lauded Governor Amaechi’s sterling leadership qualities noting that, “he is a governor that walks his talk”.

Ajimobi stated that leadership qualities of the Rivers State Governor has endeared him to his colleagues since he has been able to pursue the vision of the Governors’ Forum.

Senator Ajimobi thanked the government and people of the state for the reception accorded him and his entourage, revealing that Rivers State is the first state he is visiting since he assumed office as governor.

Meanwhile Governor Amaechi has promised to open the Kelsey Harrison Hospital later this month if the Ministry of Health fails to do so.

The Rivers State Governor who gave the hint during a dinner in honour of visiting Oyo State Governor Monday said it was high time the Ministry engaged a firm to run the facility.

He informed the Oyo State Governor that so far the state has built about 120 health centres to boost health delivery in the rural areas.

Other projects he enumerated include the independent gas power plants, agric farms, monorails model schools and new roads.

Earlier in his speech, Governor Amaechi thanked the governor and his wife for the visit, as he expressed delight for their safe arrival.
