Senator Assures Accountability In Oil Sector
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Oil and Gas, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has pledged to ensure adequate standard and accountability in the sector to boost Nigeria’s economy.
The senator, who represents Abia Central, gave the assurance in Aba at a town hall meeting with her constituents.
She said the committee had taken steps to give the sector a facelift and ensure that the country maximised the oil industry potentials for its economic development.
“Before I assumed office, there was inadequate standards and measurements for gas production and utilisation in Nigeria.
“But we have invited relevant government agencies and foreign oil companies to the National Assembly to give explanations and appropriate the way forward,’’ Nwaogu said.
She said the committee had identified some of the problems in the sector in its oversight functions, adding that it was already tackling the challenges in consultation with the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and the Escravos Gas-to-Liquid Plant in Delta.
Nwaogu commended Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia for his efforts in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state saying he had helped to improve the quality of life of the people.
According to her, the constituency projects in the past one year were to compliment the efforts of the governor to make life meaningful for the people.
“I wish to state here that the state governor has taken many positive steps in improving the quality of life of the people. There has been relative peace and security in the state.
“We recognise that there are many needs in the state competing for the limited resources. The governor is really trying but he cannot do it alone.
