Senate President Tees Off Air Assault’s Jubilee Tourney

The Senate President, Senator David Mark is expected to perform the ceremonial tee-off of a golf tournament at the Air Assault Golf Club, Port Harcourt, as the club celebrates its Silver Jubilee this weekend.

According to the Secretary of the Silver Jubilee Committee of the Air Assault Golf Club, Mr Loveday Demua in an interview with Sports Journalists in Port Harcourt, logistic have been put in place to make the event a remarkable occasion.

Mr Demua said that the event will be preceded by a national children golf tournament aimed at catching them young. He added that the competition which is part of activities lined-up to mark the Silver Jubilee celebration of the club will tee-off proper today.

He hinted that the National Children Competition which will feature participants from 16 states across the Federation is exclusively for children within the ages of 10 to 16 years.

Nigeria Cadets Get Opponents

Nigeria’s Under-20 and Under-17 national teams have been drawn with opponents for the African championships.

The Flying Eagles were on Sunday pooled in Group B with Mali, DR Congo and Gabon.

For the Golden Eaglets, they find themselves pitted against Congo, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana.

The Under-20 tournament holds in Algeria from March 16 through 30, with Nigeria as defending champions.

The Flying Eagles, who won the 2011 title, will be at their eighth appearance at the finals.

The Golden Eaglets, three-time world champions, are making a return to the continental fiesta after failing to qualify for the last two editions in Algeria and Rwanda.

The tournament holds from April 13 through 27 in Morocco with all four semifinalists qualifying to represent Africa at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the UAE next October.
