RSG Promises More Youth- Oriented Programmes

The Rivers State Government has restated its commitment to pursue programmes that will improve the condition of youths in the state.

The Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said this in Port Harcourt during the presentation of a book on community service projects organised by the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development under the Rivers State Youth Leaders Initiative (YLI).

The programme was facilitated by Development and Leadership Institute (DLI) and  Pamela D. Moore, a United States based consultancy firm.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Social  Development and Rehabilitation, Mr Joe Poroma urged the youths to shun violence and other forms of antisocial behaviours.

He reminded the youths involved in the programme that their experience in the programme will not be complete until it is put into practical use.

Also speaking, the Commission,  for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi, urged the participating youths in the programme to see themselves as ambassadors of change, noting that Rivers people will be looking out at what they can do to bring about a change.

Sir Wonodi also urged those of them who went outside the country in the course of the programme to replicate what they have learnt in their various communities, stressing that by so doing they will be justifying the huge investment of the government in the programme.

 In his address, the chairman of the occasion and chairman of Okrika Divisional Council of Chiefs,  Nemi Adoki said that the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) has rekindled the hope for a brighter future for the state.

Chief Adoki described the programme as a demonstration of Governor Amaechi’s commitment to impact positively on the youths.

He stressed the need for youths to channel their energy to positive ventures that will impact on the people.

In their separate speeches, the Executive Director of Development And Leadership Institute (DLI) Mr Oluwatosin S. Quadri and Dr Pamela D. Moore of Pamela D. Moore USA said  that the initiative is an eloquent testimony of the creative potentials of our youth population.

They noted that the 76 youths involved in the programme have carried out activities that have affected their people in various strata of life.
