Team Rivers over the weekend emerged the bronze medallist of the T-20 format in cricket at the 18th National Sports Festival (NSF) in Lagos which ended yesterday.

Rivers defeated Team Ogun with 28 runs after scoring 129 runs for seven wickets, while Ogun scored 101 all out.

The match played at the Cricket Pitch of the University of Lagos drew a large turnout of cricket enthusiasts.

Coach Team Rivers, Tonye Timimmadi, told Tidesports that they were not satisfied with their performance in spite of their victory.

“We won bronze in the One Day International (ODI) and desired a better performance in the T-20 format because I believe my team can do better.

“Our target here was at least a silver medal but hopefully we will have a chance in the next festival. We are grateful to God for making us take bronze for both formats in cricket,” he said.

Meanwhile, Adesanya Rotimi, a batsman for Team Rivers told Tidesports that their mistakes cost them the gold medal.

“We made some costly mistakes in the course of the competition that saw us getting bronze medal in the ODI.

“Again, we are not able to correct our mistakes, thus we still emerged third place in the T-20 format. However, we are grateful,“ Rotimi said.

Rivers had earlier won the bronze in the ODI format where Team Ogun won gold.

The 18th edition of the festival registered two formats for cricket as novelty, making the game to have two events, first ever, in the history of the festival.
