Political Debates Should Form Basis For Elections – INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suggested that political debates amongst candidates should be institutionalised to enable it form the foundation for electing persons into offices.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Cross Rivers State, Mr. Mike Igini, who made the suggestion last Friday while speaking in a live programme on AIT: “Focus Nigeria”, said the political debates would help Nigerians and the electorates vote leaders who have focus.
Mr Igini said institutionalising the debate would also give aspirants and party council dates and the opportunities to unveil their plans and manifesto to the people.
The REC advised Nigerians to learn how to accept election results, stating that INEC was working hard to end business of election tribunal in the country.
According to him, “Election results should be final parts of every election process in Nigeria as it is done in other countries.
“INEC is working to end the business of election tribunals in Nigeria we shall come to a point where loosers will congratulate the winners rather than going to the tribunal, “he said.
