… Okrika Wins Overall Prize

 This year’s CARNIRIV fiesta which coincided with the Centenary of Port Harcourt City has ended in grand style with Okrika Local Government Area sweeping all the awards in the various competitions.

According to the results announced by the Director General of the Rivers State Tourism Development Agency (RSTDA), Dr Sam Dede, Okrika LGA won the awards in three out of the four categories.

The Local Government Areas won in the International Heritage Parade/LGA Floats, Ekere, (Rhythm of the Tribes) and the International Aquatic Fiesta/Boat Regatta.

Degema local government areas won in the Egelege wrestling competition and came second in the aquatic display, Obio/Akpor came second in the LGA floats and Ekere Rhythm of the Tribes, Ogu-Bolo came third in LGA Floats and Ekere Rhythm of the Tribes while Ikwerre LGA came second in wrestling.

In the Garden City Freestyle Parade, the Liberation Band won in the four parade which include, Carnivals Queen and Carnival King Awards, Designer of the Year Award, and Band of the Year Award.

The regatta which, as announced Saturday night, was witnessed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr George Feyii, who represented the state governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

Other bands that participated in the event were:

Dynamic band, Treasure Base band, Jubilee band (who took first last year), Liberation band (second last year), Centenary Band, Black Gold Band (Second position this year), Fusion Band, Cristal Band and Trail Blazers band.
