Ogun NUT Opposes Teachers’ Suspension
The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogun State has kicked against the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) suspension of 1,024 teachers for falsification of certificates and other irregularities in their records.
In a statement issued by the union by the state chairman NUT, Comrade Nurudeen Badiran said the suspension should be lifted pending an accurate and comprehensive report on the teachers certificate verification exercise.
The Union said the report by the CITC consulting was not accurate and comprehensive for the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) without the input of the Union.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board Chief Mufutan Ajibola has said the affected teachers are among the 6,531 out of the 19,154 teachers screened in an exercise conducted by a firm of consultant engaged by the board to ascertain the certificates and qualification of teachers with the Board.
He said the consultants verified the teachers claims in the form of statement of result and attestation letters from over 50 higher institutions across the country.
The SUBEB Chairman said a final report submitted to the State Government by the CITC Consulting indicated that 475 teachers were suspended for possessing forged certificates and not having their attestation letters confirmed by the institutions they presented as having attended.
Chief Ajibola said 236 teachers were suspended for not being qualified as teachers on the SUBEB payroll while 2 teachers had exceeded their statutory length of service.
