Ogun Earmarks N30bn For Urban Renewal

In it’s desire to provide affordable housing for all strata of the society, the Ogun State Government has earmarked the sum of N29.62 billion, which represents 13.98 percent of its 2013 Appropriation bill, for housing development and urban renewal purposes.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun who made this known while presenting the appropriation bill tagged “Budget of Sustainable Growth”, stated that the challenge of adequate housing stock for the people of Ogun State will receive further attention by his administration.

Governor Amosun stated that in the coming year, government would construct flagship residential housing estates at Idi-Araba Abeokuta, while five other residential housing estates will be constructed with Joint Venture partners at Ijebu Ode, Shagamu, Ifo, Ado Odo/Ota and Abeokuta north.

While disclosing that the implementation of housing programmes would involve various options including the facilitation of mortgage loans, Senator Amosum noted that medium/high residential estates would be constructed in a satellite town close to Lagos.

On urban renewal, the state chief executive posited that government was committed to building new city centres and industrial estates across its three senatorial districts, adding that the centres would comprise of housing estates, shopping malls and commercial centres.

Highlighting other programmes under its urban renewal, the governor said that his administration was committed to opening up Agbara with the construction of an industrial estate on 650 hectares of land, while the commencement of industrial estate in Sagamu and Ogun waterside local government area are in the pipeline.

The governor also explained that his administration also intends to construct 2,500 seater multi-purpose hall behind the June 12 Cultural Centre in Kuto.
