Ogu Celebrates Advent Of Christianity

Bolo Local Government of Rivers State will today, Wednesday, begin a week-long celebration on the advent of Christianity in the community nearly 130 years ago.

According to the chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Sir Marks Nyenga Nemieboka, the celebration which is the first in the history of the community, is to acknowledge the right of the Gospel in the lives of the people.

He disclosed that the celebration which will involve all Christians in Ogu will feature post-humous awards to the first set of Christians in Ogu; the event will also include rally by all churches in Ogu joint choral renditions, talks on various issues and unveiling of a commemorate plague and cutting of the anniversary cake.

A book on the advent, growth and impact of Christianity in Ogu is also to be launched on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Civic Arena, Ogu. Personalities from all walks of life, politicians, top government functionaries, civil servants, and Christians within and outside the state are expected to grace the occasion.

The celebration will end with a thanksgiving service in all churches in Ogu and a Special Dinner night with the elderly in the community on Sunday December 23, 2012.
