Obi Tasks Ndigbo On Culture, Societal Values
Governor Peter Obi of Anambra has called on the people of Igbo race to uphold the culture and values of the Igboland.
Obi made the call at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka during a masquerade fiesta and cultural dance competition organised by the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism in collaboration with Ministry of Local Government.
He expressed optimism in bringing back the culture, values and language of the Igbo which were considered and held in high esteem yesteryears to the present generation.
He commended the ministries for organising such a laudable event that brought together all the communities in the state in a very lighter and brotherhood mood.
Obi prayed for a peaceful festive period and advised all to be careful and law abiding as the year drew to an end.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr JoeMartins Uzodike, said culture remained a veritable tool for binding communities together.
Uzodike stressed the need to bring back the fallen culture of the Igbo race and assured that the ministry would not relent in bringing back any culture that would promote the state.
He noted that if cultural features were being taped fully, they could yield economic results and place the state in the tourism map of the country and beyond.
Also the Commissioner for Local Government, Mrs Azuka Enemo, who mobilised the 21 local governments to participate, described the festival as eventful.
Enomo noted that such event would foster unity among communities and reduce the levels of communal clashes.
Speaking on behalf of the 21 local council transition chairmen, Mr Daza Udeozo of Njikoka, said the event was a tool for making warring communities to see themselves as brothers.
