An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court recently sentenced a 41-year-old mechanic, Benjamin Idoga, to two months imprisonment for causing grievous hurt on another man.

Idoga, who lives in Masaka in Nasarawa State, was charged with causing grievous hurt before Senior Magistrate Idaiyat Akanni.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Simon Emmanuel, told the court that the complainant, Felix Odey of Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on November 28.

Emmanuel said that on the same date, the convict had an argument with the complainant where the convict hit the complainant with a wooden plank on his head, which injured him on the head.

He added that the complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment and incurred a bill of N3,500 for the treatment.

The prosecutor said that the action of the convict contravened section 246 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency.

Delivering judgment, Akanni said offenders must be punished in order to deter others from similar acts.

She sentenced the convict to two months imprisonment or to pay N2,000 fine.

She also ordered the convict to pay N3,500 compensation to the complainant for the medical bill incurred.
