Mark Wants Growth For Golfers

The Senate President, Senator David Mark has stressed the need to
encourage more golfers in the country.

Senator Mark, who was represented by the Senator,
representing Rivers East in the National Assembly, Senator George Thompson
Sekibo stated this in an interview with Sports journalists after teeing-off the
Air assault Golf Club Silver Jubilee Golf tournament in Port Harcourt last
Saturday.

According to him, efforts should be intensified to
nurture more golfers in the state including professionals, who could represent
the state and the country during national and international golf tournaments.

He said that there was no bill on sports promotion
before the Senate currently, adding that when such is presented, the Senate
would look into it, in order to develop all spheres of sports in the country.

The Senator, who promised to be a member of the club
promised to assist the club to grow from strength to strength.

Also speaking, the Brigade Commander, 2 Amphibious
Brigade and Commander, JTF Sector tTwo, Brigadier-General Tukar Yusuf Buratai
said the club had come a long way in attaining 25-years of existence as well as
producing champions in the country. He enjoined the members to forge ahead and
improve on the game.

Brig. Gen. Buratai debunked the belief that golf is a
game for the elite, pointing out that it is a game for all, from caddies to
professionals, and called for grooming of more young players into the sport.

Tidesports gathered that a
total of 200 golfers from across the Niger Delta region took part in the
championship, among whom were 90-children and 49 others from outside the state,
including professionals.

Meanwhile, the secretary of
the Air Assault Golf Club Silver Jubilee Committee, Mr Loveday Demua has said
that the club was making efforts to cue into school sports in order to catch
young talents.
