Man, 85, Accused Of Defiling 12-Yr Old

An 85-year-old man has been arrested by the police in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a 12-year old girl.

Police sources told newsmen that the octogenerian allegedly committed the crime on Sunday in Ado Ekiti.

The suspect, who is being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department of the command, claimed he was seduced by the girl.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Victor Olu, confirmed the development.

He said the victim had been taken to the Ekiti State teaching Hospital to ascertain whether the accused  had raped the girl.

Olu also said the command had contacted members of the Ekiti State Gender-based Violence Prohibition Committee to rehabilitate the victim.

He said preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that the suspect was a serial rapist.

The police spokesman, however, gave an assurance that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the result of the test conducted on the victim at the hospital was out.

But narrating his own version of the incident, the suspect said he had sent the victim to buy a recharge card at a nearby phone booth.

“ To let you know that I never intended to commit the crime, I allowed her to go freely without making any overture after she had helped me enter the recharge card on my phone right in my house.

“But later, she returned and asked me what kind of food I have at home. I told her I only have bread and stew and she followed me inside and ate the food.

“After she finished with the food, she rested on the upholstery chair and then removed her dress and told me to examine her pubic hair.

“As a man, I began to lose control and at this level, I then pushed her onto the bed and climbed her.

The suspect, however, said he did not have sexual intercourse with the girl as he claimed that it may be a frame up and restrained himself in time.
