Lawmaker Builds Corpers’ Lodge
The Lawmaker representing Akuku-Toru Constituency 1 in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Onari Brown, has handed over keys to a modern corpers’ lodge built in Obonoma, Abonnema in the LGA.
Speaking at the commissioning of the project, Hon. Onari Brown, said the project was conceived based on the realisation that the first thing corp members need on redeployment to areas of primary assignment was accommodation.
Hon. Onari noted that Corp members suffer untold hardship because of the absence of a corpers lodge in the area and hope that the provision of the facility would enhance their commitment and dedication to service to the nation.
“Corp members today form the core of teachers in our secondary schools and since it is only through education that youths are empowered, the provision of a comfortable accommodation becomes imperative,”, Hon. Onari said.
The lawmaker disclosed that he conceived the project before contesting election and expressed happiness that the dream of providing the structure had been realized.
He thanked the state Government for funding the constituency project which he nominated and the council Chairman for accepting to under take regular maintenance of the facilities.
Commissioning the project, the Commissioner for Urban Development Dr. Tammy Danagogo, represented by the Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor on Fisheries Mr. Cottrel Alapuye, commended the lawmaker for his foresight in identifying the yearnings of the people.
Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Council, Hon. Theodore Georgewill, expressed delight over the modern Lawn Tennis Court and urged the corp members to see the project as their own while promising to ensure regular maintenance.
State Coordinator of NYSC Mrs Josephine Okunghae, represented by the Emohua Zonal Director Mr. Emeka Opara, thanked Hon. Brown for appreciating the importance of Corpers’ lodge, describing the facilities as one of the best in the state.
In an interview with the representative of the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Paulinus Nsirim, he said the issue of accommodation for corp members has been a nagging problem and wished that the project will be repleted in all the local government areas of the state.
