Indian, Chinese Firms Grace Trade Fair

The 8th Port Harcourt International Trade Fair kicked off last Wednesday at the Isaac Boro Park with the participation of Indian and Chinese firms  commitment by the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (PHCCIMA) and the Rivers State House of Assembly to make it serve development objectives.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the fair, the President of PHCCIMA Engr Emeka Unachukwu said “to ensure that the city of Port Harcourt is transformed into a world class hub for Industry, commerce and general business activities, we are enlarging the trade fair/ exhibition concept from next year to include specialised fairs and exhibitions in strategic economic growth sectors”.

Unachukwu further said PHCCIMA was building a business park with the support of a major commercial bank which will accommodate all year activities that would stimulate business growth.

The PHCCIMA president said the 2012 fair was planned to meet international standards with the provision of free healthcare, fire fighting personnel, highly improved security and the introduction of compulsory insurance in partnership with Guinea Insurance Company to all participants.

He commended the state governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for “his massive infrastructure development investment, security policies, economic activity promotion /acceleration structures” which he said, had made their work easy and interesting.

The new leadership in PHCCIMA – Unachukwu said, will work closely with government to create a buoyant state “where the citizenry will reap the benefits of true democracy.

In his speech, the Chairman, Rivers State House of Assembly on Commerce , Hon Okechukwu Akara Nwaogu said the State House will partner PHCCIMA to achieve its Objectives and bring economic prosperity to the State Dignitaries at the ceremony included the first military governor of old Rivers State and Amanyanabo of Town Brass, King Alfred Dieta Spiff, immediate past President of PHCCIMA, Engr Vincent Furo and President of the Rivers / Bayelsa Chapter of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mrs Emilia E. Akpan were conducted round exhibitors stands by the PHCCIMA president, Engr Unachukwu.
