HOS Hails Association’s Strides On Education

Members of the Old Students Association of Government Secondary School (GSS), Borikiri,
have been commended for their efforts at initiating programmes aimed at
improving the standard of education in the State.

State Head of Service (HOS), Barrister Samuel LongJohn made the commendation on
Tuesday when members of the Old Students Association of GSS, Borikiri paid him
a courtesy visit in his office in Port Harcourt.

LongJohn expressed satisfaction with their laudable objectives, which he said
would go a long way in sustaining the name of the institution and reminded them
of efforts made in actualizing the request made to the Ministry of Education to
rename the UBE Model Secondary School in Borikiri as Government Secondary
School, Borikiri in memory of former students who had contributed immensely to
the socio-economic growth of the State and nation.

The Head
of Service, who is also an old student of GSS Borikiri, reiterated his
readiness to participate actively in the programmes of the association and
promised to assist them in whatever way possible to enable them achieve set
objectives and move the body to enviable heights.

Earlier, the president of the association, Mr. Clifford
Michael congratulated the Head of Service on his appointment which he described
as an indication of the excellent leadership qualities inherent in former
students of the institution and prayed God to give him the wisdom and divine
guidance in piloting the affairs of the State civil service.

He used the forum to appeal for support to enable
members achieve set goals.

GSS Borikiri, earlier situated along Creek Road, Port
Harcourt was later relocated to its present site before it was handed over to
missionaries a few years back..
