FG To Assist Kwara Complete Cargo Terminal
The Federal Government will assist the Kwara State Government to complete the construction of the cargo terminal at the IIorin International Airport.
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Mr Hope Uzodinma, gave the assurance last Wednesday in IIorin when the committee paid a visit to the project site as part of its oversight functions.
The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of work at the cargo terminal and pledged the Federal Government’s assistance toward the completion of the project.
Uzodinma, who commended the state government for embarking on the project in spite of its lean financial resources, expressed optimism that the terminal would further improve the economy of the state.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr Abubakar Kannike, told the committee that the terminal has capacity for two Boeing 747 aircraft at a time.
He said all the facilities at the cargo terminal were of international standard and could contain 60,000 tonnes of goods.
The committee members were accompanied to the project site by Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold and other top government functionaries.
