The Enugu State Government said it had earmarked N300 million for community and social development projects to hasten the development of communities in the state.

The state’s Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke, said this at the end of the state’s Executive Council meeting presided over by acting Governor Sunday Onyebuchi.

Ugwoke said the money covered the State Government’s counterpart fund for 2010 till date, adding that it would cater for 300 projects in 120 communities.

He said the projects would transform the education, power, health and social infrastructure sectors.

The commissioner said the council also approved a draft bill to establish the Enugu State Bureau of Statistics, to make the collection, completion, storage and dissemination of statistical data easier.

According to him, the bill will be forwarded to the state’s House of Assembly for consideration and possible passage.

He explained that N489 million had been approved by the council for the construction and completion of Millennium Development Goal projects in Aninri, Igbo-Etiti and Isi-Uzo local government councils.

“Council today approved the payment of N300 million to the Enugu State Community and Social Development Project (CSDP). This covers Enugu State Government’s counterpart contributions for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

“Council also approved the procurement of water treatment chemicals for the state’s water corporation to the tune of N48 million.

“This will help to purify the raw water at the Ajalli Owa Water Scheme before it is pumped for consumption by the people,’’ Ugwoke said.

The commissioner, however, called on citizens to participate in the forthcoming state cultural festival which would cost N100 million.
