The Eze Ekpeye Logbo, Eze Robinson O. Robinson, has stated that a total of 18,000 mud houses collapsed in the recent flood disaster that ravaged the Ekpeye Kingdom, leaving owners homeless.

The Ekpeye monarch, disclosed this during the presentation of the relief materials to the Ekpeye flood victims by Ibaa Clan in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers state, last Friday at Ahoada.

According to him, the effect of the flood disaster is worst than the incident, because the environment is highly polluted, stressing that well water in the respective areas had been infested by guinea worms and other dangerous organisms. “The people have lost their farmlands, homes, properties and hope of survival,” he added and appealed to the state government to adequately address the needs of the flood victims to ensure their re-integration into the society.

He further expressed his gratitude over presentation of the relief materials by the people of Ibaa clan, saying that the cassava stems would enable them to replant and harvest in about six months time, and assured that the materials would be distributed adequately to the people concerned.

Earlier, the spokesman of Ibaa Clan, Pastor Ezekiel Ajurunwo, who is also the vice chairman, Ibaa Central Community Development committee said, “They shared in the pains and sufferings of the Ekpeye people, and came to identify with them as brothers in diaspora.”

He revealed that Ibaa originated from Oyiba in Ekpeye Kingdom and promised that more cassava stems would be delivered to them today. Items donated include 1,400 bundles of cassava stems, 16 bags of garri, 42 bunches of plantain, 300 tubers of yam, among others.
