Eko 2012: Commissioner Commends Team Bayelsa

Commissioner for Sports in Bayelsa State, Chief Mitema Obodor has hailed the performance of Team Bayelsa to the just concluded 18th National Sports Festival, NSF, tagged Eko 2012, in Lagos.

The Commissioner while assessing the performance of the State’s contingent said that the athletes did very well in the face of several odds.

According to him, that Team Bayelsa finished among the top five states at Eko 2012 was a feat worth celebrating.

He explained that the athletes faced a torrid time ahead of the Sports festival awing to the flooding that overran the state few months ago.

Chief Obodor stated that the athletes were severely distracted and could not have any meaningful pre-festival tune up as the Samson Siasia stadium complex, Yenagoa was severely flooded.

He commended the athletes, coaches and other officials for their efforts and the glory be brought to the state.

Team Bayelsa won a total of 59 medals consisting of 19 gold, 17 silver and 23 bronze medals to finish fifth on the medals table behind winners, Delta State, first and second runners up Rivers and Lagos, respectively, and fourth placed Edo State.
