Deputy Speaker Signs Deal On Motor Park
The Deputy Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr Leyii Kwanee, has signed an agreement with Ziadam Company, a transport and logistics firm to manage the motor park at Taabaa Town and provide transport services.
The motor park constructed by the Hon. Leyii Kwanee Constituency Office is aimed at providing a transport garage for commuters plying from the constituency (Nyokhana) to neighbouring towns and cities such as Port Harcourt, Aba, Andoni, Calabar, Eket and Uyo.
Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), recently, the Deputy Speaker said that the idea to construct a motor park came as a result of need assessment and data gathered for the siting of a motor park at Taabaa Town, which could be a central place for access to many transport routes.
He said apart from that, the motor park would boost business activities and provide farmers access routes to evacuate their farm produce to urban areas. This, he said, will empower these farmers and improve their standard of living.
Hon. Kwanee representing Khana Constituency 2, and Chairman, Parliamentary Exchange and Mentorship Programme (PEMP) of the Pan-African Parliament, said the absence of a motor park such as the one constructed had affected farmers with perishable produce.
The Deputy Speaker said with the motor park, such problems would be a thing of the past as such farm produce will easily get to the cities adding that this would be enough motivation for peasant farmers and the general commuters.
He implored the management of Ziadam Company to manage the motor park effectively and cautioned them not to allow miscreants to take over the park, but ensure that enough commercial vehicles were available for commuters.
Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Mr Willie Barikor Benjamin, thanked Hon. Kwanee for the motor park and assured him that the firm would manage the park effectively with emphasis on cleanliness and discipline.
