Carnival Village Agog With Kids Cultural Performance
The carnival village was agog yesterday with children cultural performances as well as a parade from Government Secondary School, Elekahia to The Liberation Stadium to kick start the CARNIRIV 2012 which is celebrated alongside the Port Harcourt Centenary events.
Speaking at the event, Rivers State Arts Ambassador, Millicent Jack noted that the children had always opened the CARNIRIV celebrations in previous years, so this year would not be an exception. She observed that though most of the children felt tired, the event was encouraging and the children had fun and were happy to be part of the celebration.
The Nollywood makeup artiste who co-ordinated part of the children’s show free style band event said this year’s edition of the CARNIRIV promises to be the best as it coincides with the centenary celebration of the city of Port Harcourt, hence the introduction of new programmes and other innovations.
Also speaking, Izobe Spiff of Tries Bien event management reiterated that the children’s event, in five categories was aimed at celebrating the 100 years of the existence of Port Harcourt city. To that effect, the events were made up of some of the old and modern professions such as Tailors/Fashion designers, Palm Wine Tappers/Waitresses, Town Criers/Media People, Old School Teachers/Lecturers, Fishermen/Boats.
According to one of the participants, Emmanuel Blessing, the event was a great experience. The student of Government Secondary School, Elekahia, said she learnt new dance steps, public conduct and also exposed her to the beauty of culture.
